Long Island Thief Found With Glock, Arrested: Police

A Long Island man originally arrested for shoplifting was found with a weapon after he was arrested, authorities said.

20-year-old East Garden City resident Christian Chavez was arrested for shoplifting but was later found to be in possession of a weapon, police said.

Store security allegedly saw 20-year-old Christian Chavez of East Garden City enter the Roosevelt Field Nordstrom on Thursday, May 4, at around 1:35 p.m., the Nassau County Police reported.

Chavez allegedly picked up a pair of shorts, hid them, and exited the store without paying.

When officers arrived at the scene, Chavez was arrested without incident.

Following an investigation, police recovered a black nine-millimeter Glock 26.

Chavez is charged with:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts
  • Petit larceny

He is scheduled back at First District Court on Tuesday, May 9.
